Featuring artists from Albuquerque’s Yjastros Flamenco Company with choreographer Deanna Encinias; from Madrid, Jaime Puente and colleagues; and joined by local flamencos: Flamenco Fever and Flame Foundation.

Spanish Dance experts join the Orchestra of New Spain chamber ensemble on stage in an evening exploring the uniquely Spanish fusion of classical dance, regional dance and ballet to create ‘escuela bolera’ with dance forms—palos—such as jacaras, jaleos, boleros, and new interpretations of boleros as championed by Daniel Doña. The more contemporary flamenco component on this voyage will be provided by the best of our local companies.

Not seen since our 2015 Dance production Villa Y Corte’, the uniquely Spanish 18th c popular musical comedy known as ‘tonadilla’ returns to our stage to tell a simple story of local characters in music and dance. Commonly seen in Goya’s paintings, you will be charmed by the costumed Majas/ Majos dancing in typical soft shoes.
